GES Mourns Two BECE Candidates Killed in Road Accident

The Ghana Education Service (GES) is mourning the death of two candidates of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) who died in a road accident while traveling to their examination centre.

Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, both students of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School in the Upper West Region, lost their lives on Sunday, May 3, 2026.

The two were en route to Wa to join their colleagues ahead of the start of the BECE when the crash occurred.

In a statement, GES Management described the incident as tragic, saying it received the news with “profound sorrow.”

“We are deeply saddened that these young lives, full of promise and potential, have been cut short under such distressing circumstances,” the Service said.

Condolences and Support
The GES, on behalf of the entire education community, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the school, classmates, and all affected by the incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time,” the statement added.

Next Steps
According to GES, preliminary reports indicate the deaths resulted from a road traffic accident.

Management says it will liaise with appropriate authorities to gather full details of the incident and explore measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” GES concluded.
