Education Minister Pledges Push for Transnational Partnerships

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting transnational education through strategic international partnerships to improve quality and access in Ghana’s tertiary sector.
The Minister made the pledge when he received a delegation from Hainan University in China during a courtesy call to explore collaboration opportunities in Ghana’s higher education space.
The discussions focused on Information Technology, agriculture, and engineering.
Mr Iddrisu welcomed China’s progress in education, particularly in Information Technology, and commended Hainan University for initiating talks toward a partnership.
He said that the government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, is pursuing policies to strengthen transnational education as a key lever for enhancing quality and access in tertiary institutions.
“International partnerships are crucial to support this expansion,” the Minister noted, adding that Ghana is open to collaborations that build capacity and align with national development priorities.
The Hainan University delegation expressed interest in joint programmes, faculty exchanges, and research cooperation with Ghanaian universities.
Further technical engagements between the Ministry and the university are expected to follow to define the scope of collaboration.
