Ghana, York University Pursue Expanded Academic and Research Partnerships

Ghana and York University have pursued an expansion of academic collaboration and the strengthening of institutional ties between Ghanaian and international universities.
A meeting between Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang and a delegation from the University at the Jubilee House focused on ways to deepen cooperation in higher education, with particular attention to knowledge exchange, student engagement, and joint research initiatives.
The York University delegation highlighted the institution’s growing focus on Africa, citing the continent’s youthful population and the opportunities it presents for academic exchange, innovation, and research partnerships.
As an alumna of York University, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the engagement was personally meaningful and underscored the value of international exposure and experiential learning beyond the classroom.
She noted that such experiences broaden perspectives and equip students with skills relevant to a globalised workforce.
The Vice President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that create opportunities for young people, deepen educational cooperation, and promote cross-border connections.
She emphasised that strategic partnerships with universities like York are important for building global academic networks and preparing the next generation for an interconnected world.
Both sides agreed on the need to translate discussions into concrete programs that enhance learning outcomes and research collaboration between Ghana and Canada.
