GES Calls on Parents, Teachers, Others to Join Fight Against Exam Malpractices

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has appealed to parents and other stakeholders to support its efforts to eradicate examination malpractices in the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The call was made by the Director-General of the GES, Prof Ernest Kofi Davis, at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday ahead of the 2026 BECE, which begins on 4th May.

Prof Davis urged all stakeholders to report any cases of examination malpractice to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) or the GES.

“We admonish each and every one to support us by reporting examination malpractice to WAEC or GES,” he said.

He stressed that curbing cheating requires collective responsibility from parents, teachers, school authorities, and the wider community.

The Director-General also announced that teachers and supervisors linked to malpractices in last year’s BECE have been banned from all examination centres.

He directed Regional Directors of Education to enforce the ban strictly.

“They are not expected to have anything to do with the examination,” Prof Davis stated.

He further warned supervisors and invigilators to maintain the highest standards of professionalism during the exams.

“Those who are caught aiding cheating will be severely punished,” he said.

The GES said the measures form part of broader reforms to protect the integrity of the examination and ensure fairness for all candidates.

Over 600,000 candidates are expected to sit for the 2026 BECE across the country from May 4 to 11.
