2026 BECE: GES Bans Teachers Implicated in Last Year’s Exam Malpractices

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has banned teachers and supervisors implicated in last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) malpractices from all examination centres.

The Director-General of the GES, Prof Ernest Kofi Davis, announced the measure at a press briefing on Wednesday, ahead of the 2026 BECE, which starts on 4th May.

He said Regional Directors of Education have been directed to enforce the ban strictly.

“I wish to remind all supervisors and Regional Directors of Education that all teachers and supervisors who were linked to examination malpractice last year and are being processed for sanctions are banned from the examination centres,” Prof Davis said.

“They are not expected to have anything to do with the examination. We expect you to follow the directive strictly. Letters have been sent to all Regional Directors.”

Prof Davis urged supervisors and invigilators to uphold the highest professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

“Those who are caught aiding cheating will be severely punished,” he warned.

The GES boss also called on stakeholders to support efforts to eradicate examination malpractices by reporting cases to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) or the GES.

“We admonish each and every one to support us by reporting examination malpractice to WAEC or GES,” he said.
