Friday, July 3, Declared Public Holiday

The Ministry of Interior has announced that Wednesday, July 1, 2026, marks Republic Day, a statutory public holiday in Ghana.
In a statement issued to the general public, the Ministry said that because July 1 falls on a Wednesday this year, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana has, by Executive Instrument, declared Friday, July 3, 2026, as a public holiday.
The declaration was made in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, Act 601, as amended.
The Ministry said Friday, July 3, 2026, should be observed as such throughout the country.
Republic Day commemorates Ghana’s attainment of republican status on July 1, 1960.
With the holiday shifted to Friday, public institutions, schools, and most businesses are expected to close, while essential service providers will operate on duty rosters.
The Ministry urged the public to take note of the new arrangement and plan their activities accordingly for the long weekend.
