Fire Service Reports Fall In Prank Calls

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported a fall in the number of prank calls in the first quarter of 2025.

Between January and March, the Service recorded 131,862 prank calls.

This is a 31.52% fall compared to the same period in 2024.

“The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is pleased to announce a significant reduction in prank calls between January and March 2025. From 192,545 prank calls in 2024 to 131,862 this year, this is 31.52% drop.”

The GNFS believes effective sensitisation accounts for the milestone.

A statement issued by the Service on Thursday said it “is a clear testament to the impact of our sustained public education campaigns against this dangerous practice”.

It used the occasion to highlight the implications of such calls.

“Prank calls delay real emergency responses, endanger lives, and waste critical resources. Every false alarm could cost someone their home or their life… We urge all citizens to call GNFS responsibly and without delay during fire emergencies. Timely and genuine alerts save lives and protect property.”

It also acknowledged the growing public support in fighting this menace.

“Your awareness and action have been instrumental in this downward trend. Let’s keep it up!”
