A/R: Police Arrest 24 Suspects, Seize Guns and Narcotics in  Swoop

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 24 suspected criminals in a series of intelligence-led operations across parts of the Ashanti Region as part of efforts to clamp down on crime and enhance public safety.

The operation was conducted by the Inspector-General of Police (I.G.P.) Special Operations Team (SOT) in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

It covered Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo and Abofour, with a focus on suspected drug peddlers and other criminal elements.

In all, 21 males and 3 females were arrested. Among them was Richmond Okyere, 49, who was found in possession of a pump-action gun bearing serial number 21GN-1918.

Others arrested include Nkrumah Zakaria, 23; Paul Addo, 62; Louis Samba, 26; Stephen Opoku, 24; Frimpong Yiadom, 33; Juliana Vivor, 17; Douglas Osei, 28; Kwabena Aikins, 38; Osman Ibrahim, 31; Ama Pokuah, 35; and Musah Haruna, 32.

A range of exhibits were retrieved during the swoop including one unregistered Toyota Highlander, one unregistered Toyota Camry, one Mercedes-Benz saloon with registration number AS 8724-Z, one unregistered motorcycle, the pump-action gun, and seven rounds of RED-STAR AAA cartridges.

Police also seized 489 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, parcels and sealed packages of suspected narcotic substances, 90 tablets of 225mg Tramadol, 140 tablets of 250mg Tramadol, 11 tablets of Royal 225mg, 38 narcotics processing materials, and 40 locally made toffees suspected to contain narcotics.

Other items recovered include bottles of Femude drink suspected to be laced with narcotics, three boxes of “African Viagra”, one Dell laptop, two LED television sets, 52 lighters, 12 crushers, four quantities of ash residue believed to be associated with narcotics use, a fireproof high-security safe, and various sums of money suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.

All suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations, while the exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes.

The Police said suspects found culpable will be put before court after investigations are concluded.

The Ghana Police Service said it remains committed to sustained intelligence-led operations to combat drug-related offences, violent crime and other forms of criminality.

The Service urged members of the public to support law enforcement efforts by providing credible information on criminal activities through the nearest Police Station or designated emergency channels.
