FDA Alerts Public About Contaminated Sausages

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) of Ghana has issued an alert about AIA Wudy and Pavo brands of sausages.

These sausage brands, according to the FDA, have been contaminated.

“Two batches with codes 1785417 and 01810919 with expiry date 30th November 2022 are implicated”, a statement from the FDA said.

These products have been flagged by the Italian authorities due to the presence of Listeria in them.

The FDA says some of the Pavo sausages were found in Ho in the Volta region of Ghana during a market surveillance activity.

“The products have since been detained for safe disposal”, the FDA noted and added, “no AIA Wudy sausages have been found on our market”.

It also called on persons in possession of these products to give them up to the FDA.

It further said it is monitoring the market for these products.

In September, Italy informed Spain about the contamination of the two products which necessitated the recall of the products which had been distributed across the country.

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) reports that the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the sausages was detected after an inspection at the manufacturing plant in Italy.

It was also detected in the environmental sampling carried out in the establishment.
