Baba Yara Sports Stadium Closed To Domestic Matches

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the closure of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to local matches.

This is to reserve the venue for the final leg of Ghana’s qualifier against Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations.

“The decision is to give managers of the pitch ample time to further improve the quality of pitch for Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.”

The decision which was taken on Wednesday, March 1 by the GFA, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority comes in the course of the betPawa Premier League.

But the GFA, in a statement communicating this said, the only local match to be affected by this decision, is the Matchday 21 fixture between Asante Kotoko and King Faisal.

“All relevant stakeholders are to take note and act accordingly”, it noted.

Ghana will be hosting Angola for the qualifiers on Thursday, March 23, 2023.

The game is scheduled to be held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

That won’t be the only international game to be held on the pitch. The Black Meteors will also face Algeria in the 2nd leg of the last round qualifier for the TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
