AsanteheneAt27: Mahama Sends Felicitations

President John Dramani Mahama has sent his goodwill message to the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the occasion of his 27th Enstoolment Anniversary.

The message was delivered through the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, during the third Akwasidae festival celebration, which coincided with the enstoolment anniversary on April 26, 2026.

In his message, he lauded the 16th Occupant of the Golden Stool for 27 years of distinguished leadership that has elevated Asanteman and deepened Ghana’s cultural heritage.

He further highlighted Otumfuo’s instrumental role in advancing national development during critical moments in Ghana’s history, stressing that the Asantehene’s counsel and support remain vital to his government.

Mr Mahama recalled instances where Otumfuo’s interventions helped ease political tensions, broker peace, and rally stakeholders around key development initiatives.

“At every difficult turn, His Majesty has stood as a stabilising force — offering wisdom without partisanship and solutions without self-interest,” he noted.

“His moral authority and commitment to Ghana’s progress continue to be indispensable to our governance and national cohesion. We do not take his partnership for granted.”

The Regional Minister was in the company of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC).

Today’s Akwasidae
For the first time in 27 years, the 16th Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, marked his enstoolment anniversary on Akwasidae, the sacred festival of the Asante Kingdom.

This year, April 26 — the exact date His Majesty ascended the Golden Stool in 1999 — falls on the 3rd Akwasidae of 2026, creating a historic overlap between personal reign and ancestral tradition.

As a result, the Akwasidae Festival was observed with exceptional grandeur, with most paramountcies within Asanteman in attendance.

Nananom, government officials, diplomats, and thousands from across the country and beyond filled the palace forecourt.
