AsanteheneAt27: Historic Coincidence as Otumfuo’s Enstoolment Anniversary Falls on Akwasidae

For the first time in 27 years, the 16th Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is marking his enstoolment anniversary on Akwasidae, the sacred festival of the Asante Kingdom.

This year, April 26 — the exact date His Majesty ascended the Golden Stool in 1999 — falls on the 3rd Akwasidae of 2026, creating a historic overlap between personal reign and ancestral tradition.

Manhyia Palace historians confirm that this is the first such coincidence since Otumfuo’s enstoolment.

The coincidence has transformed the usual Akwasidae rites currently underway at Dwabrem, Manhyia Palace, into a dual commemoration.

As a result, the Akwasidae Festival is being observed with exceptional grandeur, with all paramountcies within Asanteman in attendance.

Nananom, government officials, diplomats, and thousands of Asanteman citizens have filled the palace forecourt to honor both the ancestors and the living Asantehene.

The occasion will also be used to pay homage and extend felicitations to His Majesty as he marks 27 years on the Golden Stool.
