Asantehene Gives Rev Dr Akua Ofori-Boateng a ‘Memorable’ 50th Birthday

What would have been one of the regular and simple days in the life of Rev Dr Akua Buabema Ofori-Boateng, the Director of Programmes for the Anglican Diocese of Accra, turned out to be an indelibly great and memorable day by the kind courtesy of the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
A series of activities was organised under the auspices of the King to mark the 50th birthday of Rev Dr Akua Boabema Ofori-Boateng, the Director of Programmes for the Anglican Diocese of Accra, Ghana.
The Manhyia Palace honoured the Rev Lady, hosting a service and a luncheon to that effect.
The events on May 26, 2026, were graced by the King and joined by some traditional authorities, friends and family of the celebrant.
Birthday Service
In his sermon, Very Rev Samuel Lamptey, Dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral, Accra, commended the clergywoman for her show of gratitude to God.
“Thanksgiving is the fundamental reaction of people when they realise the intervention of God in their lives….Rev Akua has realised this.”
The clergy led the congregation to offer prayers for the celebrant and her family.
The occasion was also used to intercede for the Asantehene and Asanteman.
Luncheon
The second part of the celebrations was a luncheon where the attendees joined the Asantehene and the celebrant to dine.

In a heartfelt speech, the mother of the celebrant, Mrs Savinah Ofori-Boateng, expressed her profound appreciation to God for her daughter’s life.
“We thank God for this day. It is a day her husband and children will be forever grateful.”
She was also grateful to the Asantehene for the honour done to her family.
According to her, what had been planned to be a quite simple day had been transformed into a memorable day.
“I want to thank His Majesty sincerely for this honour….Your Majesty has taken this celebration to a different level. We are deeply honoured. This is more than we imagined.”
Describing her daughter as a woman of faith, selfless and generous, she acknowledged the many lives she has touched through Ministry.
Mrs Ofori-Boateng prayed for her daughter while interceding for God’s advancement, grace and wisdom in the years ahead.
Gratitude
In her remarks, Rev Dr Ofori-Boateng recalled how Otumfuo invited her to the Palace and informed her of his plans to host her and her family on her 50th birthday.
“What eyes have not seen nor ears heard is what you have done for me,” she told the King.
She further paid tribute to her mother, husband, her brother, her mentors and her friends.
“I have no words to express how I feel.”
Toast
Meanwhile, her brother raised a toast to the milestone.
He prayed that God take her to higher heights and continue to make her a blessing to many.
Cake
Also featured in the luncheon was the cutting of a cake.

The symbolic cake-cutting segment was done by the celebrant, the Asantehene and her close family.
Encounter
His Majesty, while addressing the guests, recollected his first encounter with the Rev Lady through Dr Lawrence Serebour, which turned into a father-daughter relationship over nearly a decade.
His Majesty indicated that the Palace and his household grew fond of her after she led some services.
Touching on the plan to host the celebration, Otumfuo said the whole idea emerged during a visit by Rev Dr Akua Buabema, during which he found out she was a May-born like himself.
On his 76th birthday, he communicated his intention to host her family and friends at the Palace.
“I told her that I would celebrate it for her and told her to convene her family and friends in Accra for it.”
