Asante Mamponghene Assumes Stewardship of Asanteman as Otumfuo Departs for Poland

The Occupant of the Silver Stool, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, has assumed stewardship of Asanteman following the departure of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for a five-day official visit to Poland.
The Mamponghene, who serves as Asanteman Nifahene and second-in-command of the Asante Kingdom, formally took charge on May 27, 2026.
This marks the first time Daasebre Osei Bonsu III is exercising the mandate since his enstoolment as Paramount Chief of the Asante Mampong Traditional Council in January 2026.
In Asante tradition, the Mamponghene automatically assumes regency when the Golden Stool is vacant or when the Asantehene travels outside the kingdom.
During this period, the Mamponghene will oversee the administration of the kingdom, preside over key traditional functions, and ensure the continuity of governance and customary affairs.
He will hold the responsibility until the Asantehene’s expected return to Ghana later in June.
The arrangement reflects the long-established traditional system of Asanteman.
Otumfuo is expected to proceed to Canada after his visit to Poland for further official engagements.
Meanwhile, Nana Boadakye Yam Ababio, Nkwantakesehene, has been designated as caretaker of Kumasi due to the absence of Bantamahene and Asafohene.
