Nkwantakesehene Assumes Caretaker Role over Kumasi

Nana Boakye Yam Ababio, Nkwantakesehene, has assumed responsibility over Kumasi following a trip outside Ghana by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.

At the Asanteman Council meeting on May 25, 2026, Otumfuo designated the role to him as Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, Bantamahene and Akyeamfuo Asafo Boakye Agyemang Bonsu, Asafohene, are both out of the country.

The temporary arrangement ensures continuity in the administration and customary oversight of the Kumasi Traditional Area.

Otumfuo departed Ghana for a five-day working visit to Poland, after which he is expected to proceed to Canada for further engagements.

Nana Nkwantakesehene took over on May 27 and will remain in charge until Otumfuo returns later in June.
