Asamoah Gyan Shares Significant Role Kurt Okraku Played in His Life During a Dark Moment

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) African Player of the Year in 2010, Asamoah Gyan, has revealed an emotional incident that occurred with Kurt Okraku.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday, 20th of May, 2026 officially unveiled Asamoah Gyan as an ambassador for the national teams and colts’ football in the country.

The event held at Pelican Hotel saw attendance of iconic personalities like Anthony Baffoe, Stephen Appiah, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu and Prince Tagoe, who graced the occasion, and famous musician Dopenation electrified the ceremony.

Asamoah said, “I had a one-on-one conversation with him (Kurt Okraku). I wasn’t myself at that time. If all of you could identify, I stayed away from social media for some time. What he said was, Asamoah, we have a lot to do, don’t do this to yourself.”

“And it was like, there was a moment when I came back to my senses, what are we supposed to do? And he said, we have a lot of things to do when it comes to grassroots football.”

The role will see him spearhead promotional campaigns, engagements, and corporate partnerships aimed at uniting Ghanaians behind the Black Stars as they head to North America for the 2026 tournament.

He will also represent the GFA at official meetings and promote the national teams and Colts football.
