Arise Ghana Demo Clash: Two injured Police Officers Undergo Surgery

Two police officers who sustained various degrees of injuries during the first day of the Arise Ghana Demonstration are undergoing emergency surgery, the Ghana Police Service has said.

The injury toll among the police has also been revised to fifteen (15), an update from the Ghana Police Service said.

The fifteen officers, the police said, are all admitted to the Police Hospital where they are receiving medical attention.

The officers sustained the injuries on June 28, 2022, during the first day of a two-day demonstration by a coalition called the Arise Ghana.

It was reported that the demonstrators, in the course of trying to use an unapproved route were resisted by Police, an action that ensued in a clash between the police and the protesters.

Some of the protesters resorted to pelting stones at the police officers who were providing them with security while the police used tear gas.

In the end, the police said twelve officers got injured and footage from the clash showed some of the protesters were also injured, although there is no official data on the number of protesters that got injured.

Twenty-nine of the protesters were arrested for the violence.
