Akonta Mining’s Second Galamsey Case Adjourned to July 31
The trial of Akonta Mining and others, involving the Tano Nimire Forest galamsey case, has been adjourned to July 31, 2026.
This follows the absence of the lawyer for the 1st and 2nd Accused Persons on Wednesday.
Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem Sai, said the case was called this morning, but counsel for the 1st and 2nd accused was not present.
The Court thereby granted a request for an adjournment.
The matter is now scheduled for July 31, 2026 for the continuation of cross-examination of the last Prosecution Witness.
The case, THE REPUBLIC v AKONTA MINING & OTHERS, relates to alleged illegal mining activities in the Nimire Forest Reserve and has drawn public attention over concerns about illegal mining and environmental degradation.
This follows the conviction and sentencing to 20 years of the owner of Akonta Mining, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
