OSP Receives €700,000 EU-Funded Forensic Lab and Interview Rooms

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has taken delivery of the final components for its ISO-standard forensic laboratory and four state-of-the-art investigative interview rooms, a move the office says will significantly strengthen Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts.

The approximately €700,000 project was funded by the European Union through GIZ and includes specialised forensic technology, full facility installation, and advanced technical training for OSP personnel.

In a statement, the OSP said the new world-class facilities will improve the quality and reliability of forensic examinations and suspect interviews. By strengthening the scientific foundation of investigations, the office aims to ensure evidential integrity and support the delivery of credible justice.

The OSP noted that the support forms part of broader strategic collaborations with development partners committed to advancing Ghana’s anti-corruption architecture. Since its inception, the office has pursued its mandate to protect public resources through enforcement, asset recovery and systemic prevention.

This includes conducting thorough investigations and securing convictions, recovering stolen assets and freezing funds pending judicial outcomes, as well as implementing risk assessments and preventive interventions that the OSP says have saved the nation millions of cedis.

Beyond enforcement, the OSP said it is also building a culture of integrity among young people through initiatives such as the Youth Against Corruption programme, which seeks to foster ethical leadership, accountability and responsible citizenship.

The office emphasised that strong institutions require sustained investment, innovation and commitment to their mandate.

It added that the continued backing from partners like the European Union and GIZ reflects global confidence in Ghana’s dedication to the rule of law.
