Africa Isn’t Asking to be Pitied – Asantehene

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has declared that Africa is not seeking sympathy or special treatment from other continents.

According to His Majesty, the continent, often classified as “third world,” is seeking partnerships in trade, production and innovation.

“In this changing world, Africa is not asking to be pitied. Africa is not asking to be treated as an afterthought. Africa is saying we are ready to partner, to produce, to trade, to innovate and to build,” Otumfuo said on May 29, 2026, while addressing a gathering at the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów.

The occupant of the Golden Stool was quick to note that the partnership Africa seeks is not the old, destructive relationship, but one rooted in respect and mutual benefit.

“It must be of value to both sides. It must go beyond raw materials and finished imports. It must involve technology, skills, industry, finance, education, agriculture, culture and human connection,” Otumfuo stated.

“Africa has land, Poland has technology. Africa has young people, and Poland has experienced industries. Africa has markets, and Poland has manufacturing capability. Africa has minerals, food, potential, creativity and cultural confidence. Poland offers engineering, logistics, education, agriculture and access to the European market. Together, we can create something powerful,” he added.

Otumfuo also observed that Poland is in the right position to partner with Africa.

“Poland, with its remarkable journey from struggle to resilience, from tradition to industrial strength, from history to modern European influence, is well placed to become a serious and trusted partner,” His Majesty said.
