Adwoa Sarfo: When I Touch Down, I Will Assume My Position

Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo is hopeful of taking back her job at the Ministry upon her return when the dust settles, she has said.

The Minister sought a leave of absence from President Akufo-Addo last year which should have ended on August 31, 2021, but then, sought an extension of the leave citing “personal reasons”, a statement dated October 6, 2021, and signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin said.

The communication from Eugene Arhin announced the appointment of Cecilia Abena Dapaa, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources as the caretaker Minister for the Gender Ministry.

Months down the line, Adwoa Sarfo, who says she is attending to family issues in the United States of America (USA), expects to take back her job upon her return.

She indicated that the president understands the nature of the issue at hand.

“He (President Akufo-Addo) is very much aware of what is happening to me and my family and that’s what I expect every Ghanaian to understand. That I am not intentionally abandoning my duties and my responsibilities. I have served the people of Ghana for twelve years.

“I entered politics when I was young and there has not been any past record of me absenting myself like this. That should tell people that there’s really something that ought to be done with family and I’m sure that you will put family first so they should all stop and keep praying for us”, she said.

For her job as an MP, she said “I will definitely be returning to serve my people. I lead and serve the people of Dome Kwabenya and I’ve done that for the past twelve years and I know what exactly my responsibilities are and I’m definitely gonna do that but as you know, my son is unwell and he has to transition to school and as a mother, I have ensured that all that is settled before I can resume my duties and that’s exactly what I’m doing”.
