6 Arrested, GH₵300,000 Recovered by Police after Portor-Gurumpe Highway Robbery
The police have arrested six suspects in connection with a robbery on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway and have retrieved GH₵300,000.00 in cash stolen from the victims.
According to a press release signed by the Bono East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Shaibu A. Sadique-Osei, the incident took place on July 19, 2026, at about 8:30 pm.
Police personnel on duty at the Portor Police Barrier under the Kintampo Police Division received intelligence that a robbery was in progress a few meters away from the barrier.
A team of police personnel responded swiftly to the scene.
About four suspects fled into the bush at the sight of the police; however, the officers arrested Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration No. AS 1541-25.
During preliminary interrogation, the driver mentioned Samad Issahaka, 24, driver of a Kia Rhino No. AS 7337-23, as part of the robbery gang, leading to his arrest accordingly.
Police Counter Terrorism personnel together with the local Police Patrol team later pursued the fleeing suspects into the bush and arrested them. They were identified as Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21, Asigri Avoka, 25, Awini Stephen, 19, and Faisal Salifu, 26.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of the full GH₵300,000.00. During interrogation, the suspects admitted they trailed the Kia Rhino from Offinso in the Ashanti Region and carried out the robbery at Portor in the Bono East Region after being tipped off by suspect Samad Issahaka.
All six suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations.
Further investigations revealed that Yahaya Seidu, 35, owner of the Kia Rhino, had instructed his driver to convey him to Buipe to purchase cattle.
The driver, knowing his boss was carrying money, allegedly conspired with five others to rob them on the highway.
Armed with a toy pistol, the suspects trailed the Kia Rhino and its occupants, caught up with them after the Portor Police Barrier, and robbed them of GH₵300,000.00 in cash.
The Ghana Police Service commended the alertness and professionalism of the personnel on duty, as well as the Counter Terrorism team, and assured the public of its continued commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all persons and property within the Bono East Region.
