What Would A Visit To The Kingdom Of Gold Be Without A Feel Of Gold?

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, hosted the King of the Eswatini Kingdom, His Majesty Mswati III, for four days in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The Monarch from the southern African country alongside his wife, HRH Inkhosikati LaMagongo, members of the Eswatini royal family and government officials paid a reciprocal visit to the Occupant of the Golden Stool.
The visit spanned from June 24 to June 28 during which the kingdom of gold witnessed numerous activities taking place at the Manhyia Palace to give majestic welcome and reception to the guests.
On the eve of the departure of the visiting Monarch, a banquet was held.
It was an occasion for the exchange of signature gifts between the Kings, leaving a lasting memory of the historic encounter.
King Mswati presented an Eswatini traditional outfit to Otumfuo while his wife presented the female royal version of their traditional outfit to Lady Julia Osei Tutu.
The couple said the gifts were signs and symbols of friendship and the new ties built between the two great kingdoms.
The Asantehene as always was strategic, after all a visit to the Kingdom of gold would be lacking without a hands-on experience of gold.
King Mswati, therefore, received a 22-karat gold chain with the “denkyemkye” pendant. The ‘denkyemkye’ is the crest of the Asante kingdom, featured on its highest honours and gifts.
A stunning 22-karat gold jewellery set adorned with Adinkra symbols, comprising a necklace, bracelets, and earrings, was presented to HRH Inkhosikati LaMagongo by Lady Julia.
Presenting it, Lady Julia said, it was “a token of our affection, gratitude and pleasure of having you here in Kumasi with us”.
“We hope… you remember us fondly when you return home.”
Her Highness also ensured HRH Inkhosikati LaMagongo departed with an Asante kente, saying “You can’t leave without a piece of this.”
