“We Can Compete Against Any Team” – Panama’s Ismael Diaz Sends Message to Black Stars

Panama striker Ismael Diaz has declared that his team harbours no fear as they prepare to face Ghana in the opening game of their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

The Canal Men have been in impressive pre-tournament form, engaging in high-quality friendlies against strong sides including Brazil, Bosnia and South Africa — all of whom have also qualified for the global showpiece. These matches have helped build their confidence and competitiveness ahead of the tournament.

Speaking prior to the June 17 clash against the Black Stars, Diaz expressed belief in his side’s ability to compete at the highest level.

“We have shown that we can compete against any team. Throughout a player’s career, you learn a lot from both positive and negative situations. I’ve learned from everything and now I try to contribute both on and off the field,” he said.

“We’re not afraid of anyone. We want to compete against whoever is in front of us,” Diaz added.

The statement underlines Panama’s growing ambition as they make their return to the World Cup.

Ghana, who open their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field in Toronto, will be facing a side full of belief and momentum.

With both teams determined to make a strong start to the tournament, the encounter promises to be a fascinating battle between two nations eager to progress beyond the group stage.
