V/R: 2 Injured, Cars and Motorbikes Burnt in Akatsi Fence Wall Dispute

The Akatsi District Police Command has commenced investigations into a disturbance at Deti, a suburb of Akatsi in the Volta Region, that led to two gunshot injuries and the destruction of property on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Police said the victims have been identified as James Kpanda, 44, and Jonathan Kpanda, 30. Both sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.

A Mercedes-Benz private car, two motorbikes, and a fence wall were also destroyed.

According to preliminary investigations, at about 10:30 a.m. on the day of the incident, some young men, including the two victims, went to the residence of a suspect, Mensah Awagah, and began pulling down his fence wall.

Police say the action infuriated the suspect, who allegedly went to his room, retrieved a gun, and fired at the group. James Kpanda sustained a gunshot wound to the knee, while Jonathan Kpanda was shot in the eye.

Following the shooting, angry youth reportedly went on a rampage and set ablaze a Mercedes-Benz private car and two motorbikes parked within the suspect’s residence.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were called to the scene, but by the time they arrived, the car and the motorbikes had been burnt beyond recognition.

Mensah Awagah is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, while the injured victims are receiving treatment at the Akatsi District Hospital.

Police say a manhunt is underway for other suspects involved to assist with ongoing investigations.

The Akatsi District Police Command said further developments on the case would be communicated in due course.
