MUSIGA Wants More Concert Venues
The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has requested the construction of a lot more concert venues across the country.
The request comes as the world commemorates World Music Day also known as Fête de la Musique which promotes the power of music and its universal language.
In a statement, the Acting President of the Union, Bessa Simons said the country must be conscious of what the day stands for.
He recognizes these venues, when available, will enable musicians to practice their craft and perform regularly which will in turn, “improve their revenue and afford the general public the opportunity to enjoy live music performances.”
“It is in this regard that MUSIGA is calling on the government to fast-track the construction of five amphitheatres across the country which began last year.”
It also said the venues will impact tourism in the country.
In April this year, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey cut the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern open-air amphitheatre at the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi- the first of the five promised the country.
He stated that the project forms part of the New Patriotic Party’s manifesto to build five (5) Amphitheatres across the country and also assured Ghanaians the project will be done on time.
“This amphitheatre is supposed to start any moment and by the end of July 2023, it should be ready. So far, as said in the NPP manifesto, five (5) Amphitheaters will be built this year; two (2) in Accra, one (1) in Kumasi, one (1) in Takoradi and one (1) in Tamale,” the Minister is quoted to have said at the time.
