Ghana Calls for Integrated Energy Systems to Drive Africa’s Industrial Future

Africa must build reliable, affordable, and integrated energy systems if it is to achieve economic transformation and industrial growth, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has said.

Speaking at the 3rd Africa Energy Technology Conference in Accra, the Minister told Ministers, industry leaders, investors, innovators, and development partners that the continent’s future depends on moving beyond exporting raw resources to creating value through industrialisation, technology, and strategic energy investments.

“With our abundant natural resources, growing population, and expanding markets under AfCFTA, Africa has every opportunity to become a global industrial powerhouse,” he said.

He added that achieving this will require bold leadership, regional cooperation, and long-term investment in energy infrastructure.

The Minister outlined Ghana’s efforts to strengthen energy security and accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy mix.

These include expanded renewable energy deployment, battery storage systems, mini-grid electrification, gas-to-power modernisation, and preparations toward nuclear energy development.

He thanked the organisers of AETC and participants for fostering dialogue and partnership on Africa’s energy future.

The conference brought together stakeholders to discuss technology and investment pathways for shaping Africa’s energy sector.
