UG Suspends Lectures as Flooding Forces Students to Stay Indoors

The University of Ghana has suspended all lectures and directed students to remain indoors following heavy storms and flooding across Accra on Monday morning.

In an urgent safety notice signed by the Director of the Academic Affairs Directorate, the University said the measure was necessary to protect students amid widespread flooding in the capital.

“Due to heavy storms and flooding across Accra this morning: Stay indoors wherever you are now; in your hall, at home or current location,” the notice stated.

The Directorate also advised students against attempting to travel to campus.

“Do not attempt to come for lectures or travel until the rains and flooding subside,” it added.

According to the statement, all lectures will remain suspended until the situation improves.

The University urged students to “KEEP SAFE” as authorities continue to monitor conditions.

The advisory comes as the Ministry of the Interior and other government agencies have also warned the public to avoid unnecessary movement, with several roads in Accra submerged after hours of continuous rain.
