Power Cut at Achimota as Flooding Hits Substation

Parts of Accra served by the Achimota Substation are experiencing power outages following flooding at the facility this morning.

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, announced the shutdown on Facebook, stating that the substation is “experiencing flooding.”

“In coordination with ECG and GRIDCo, we have therefore switched off the supply as a precautionary safety measure,” he said.

The Minister did not specify how long the outage will last or which communities are directly affected. However, the Achimota Substation is a key transmission point that supplies several suburbs in the Greater Accra Region.

The shutdown comes amid widespread flooding in parts of the country following a sustained downpour since Monday morning.

Government and emergency agencies have already advised the public to avoid unnecessary movement and flooded roads.

ECG and GRIDCo are expected to provide updates once it is safe to restore power to the area.
