GNFS Urges Residents to Cut Power If Floodwater Enters Homes

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has advised residents to switch off electricity immediately if floodwater enters their homes, but only when it can be done safely.
In a Facebook advisory on Monday, the Service said the step is critical to prevent electrocution and fire outbreaks during the ongoing floods.
“Switch off electricity if floodwater enters your home, provided it is safe to do so,” the GNFS stated.
The advisory comes as heavy rains continue to cause flooding in several parts of the country, forcing government, schools, and workplaces to issue safety directives.
The Ministry of the Interior has also warned the public to avoid flooded roads and remain indoors until conditions improve.
Fire officials have been deployed alongside the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and NADMO to assist affected communities and undertake rescue operations where necessary.
The GNFS cautioned residents not to take risks by wading through water to access electrical panels or appliances, and urged anyone in danger to contact emergency services on 192.
