Presidency Calls for Caution as Flooding Hits Parts of Ghana

The Presidency has urged residents in flood-affected areas to remain vigilant and strictly comply with safety advisories as heavy rainfall continues to cause flooding in parts of the country.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Presidency called on the public to prioritise personal safety and follow official directives from emergency agencies.

“Stay indoors if you are in a safe location. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads, whether on foot or in a vehicle,” the statement said.

It further advised residents whose homes are being inundated to “move immediately to higher ground and call 112 for emergency assistance.”

Motorists were specifically warned to avoid submerged routes, including the Mallam–Kasoa Road, as well as Alajo and Graphic Road areas in Accra.

“Turn around if you encounter floodwaters and seek a safe, elevated location,” the Presidency added.

The statement also cautioned the public to unplug electrical appliances and stay clear of electrical poles, transformers, and fallen power lines to prevent electrocution.

“Your safety is paramount. Please follow official updates and emergency directives,” it concluded.

The advisory comes as government agencies, including the Ministry of the Interior, Ghana National Fire Service, and NADMO, have intensified rescue and public safety operations following hours of continuous downpour across Accra and other urban centres.
