Microblogging app Twitter has suspended the account of Ghanaian hip hop artiste Samuel Adu Frimpong popular as Medikal for impersonation.
The suspension is permanent according to a statement Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, issued over the weekend.
Medikal, at the beginning of this week, updated his Twitter profile photo with a picture of President Nana Akufo-Addo and changed his display name to “Mr President” without indicating it was a parody account.
He was therefore suspended on November 8 for impersonating the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
His suspension followed a complaint by a blogger and fan of rapper Sarkodie with an account name Beno SarkCess to Elon Musk.
“Hi @elonmusk kindly check @AmgMedikal’s account. He is trying to impersonate the President of Ghana”, he tweeted at 9:30 PM on Tuesday, November 8.
His complaint came after the world’s richest man, Musk, warned Twitter account holders against impersonation.
“Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended.
“Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning.
“This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue. Any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark”, Musk said in a series of Tweets on Sunday, November 6.
Medikal’s account had more than 320 thousand followers whereas he followed 638.
His suspension has gotten him trending on the App with a section of social media users blaming Beno for the suspension.
“you reported Medikal because He raps better than Sarkodie, the hate is getting real,” one tweeted.
“Beno Go tag Elon Musk gidi gidi say Medikal this medikal that but if ebe Sarkodie nanka them go come tell we say we dey hate am. Hypocrites”, said another.
Another said, “It doesn’t matter what Elon tweeted, I blame Beno for Medikal’s suspension ”
Following this, Medikal’s wife, Fella Makafui who holds more than 782 thousand followers tweeted she is going to make a difficult decision without elaborating what it was about.
“I’m about to make the hardest decision ever”, she tweeted on Wednesday at 12:50 pm.
It is not known if her tweet is related to Medikal’s suspension but social media users are anticipating she is either planning to delete her account or hand it over to her husband.
“About to give ur Twitter handle to ur Husband, Medikal?”, one asked.
“Give your account to your husband ”, another predicted.
“Give your account to your husband, it’s worth it”, another stated.
