TVET Now Central to Ghana’s Industrialisation Drive, Says Education Ministry

The Ministry of Education has reaffirmed that skills development remains critical to Ghana’s transformation agenda, describing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a central pillar for industrialization, job creation, and inclusive growth.

The position was outlined at the Ghana TVET Excellence Awards 2026, held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, who represented the Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, told participants that government reforms in the sector are focused on competency-based training, stronger industry collaboration, and equipping learners with practical, demand-driven skills.

“TVET is now a central pillar for industrialization, job creation, and inclusive economic growth,” Dr. Apaak said.

He disclosed that steps are underway to establish a dedicated TVET Fund to finance infrastructure, training, and access for learners nationwide.

In addition, a comprehensive National TVET Policy is awaiting Cabinet approval to provide a clear framework for the sector’s transformation.

The Ghana TVET Excellence Awards 2026 convened policymakers, industry leaders, development partners, and trainees to recognize excellence and promote standards within Ghana’s TVET ecosystem.

Awards were presented to outstanding institutions, trainers, and learners who have demonstrated innovation and impact in technical and vocational fields.

The Ministry said the reforms and investments are designed to reposition TVET from a second-choice option to a first-choice pathway for youth, aligning training with the needs of industry and the country’s industrialization drive.
