Kotoko Confirm Prince Owusu Resignation, Appoint Hamza Obeng as Interim Coach

Asante Kotoko have confirmed that interim head coach Prince Yaw Owusu has stepped down from his position with immediate effect, bringing an end to his short stint in charge of the club.

The Porcupine Warriors made the announcement in an official statement, revealing that the decision was taken by the coach himself in what he described as the best interest of the club. The development comes at a time when Kotoko are struggling to find consistency in results.

“In his resignation letter, the coach stated that his decision was taken in the greatest interest of the club,” the statement read, as the club acknowledged his efforts during a challenging period. Management also extended their appreciation for his service, highlighting his dedication and commitment while wishing him success in his future endeavours.

Following his departure, Kotoko have appointed youth team coach Hamza Obeng to take charge of the senior team on an interim basis for the remainder of the season. The club indicated that further decisions regarding the technical team will be communicated in due course.

Owusu’s exit comes amid a dip in form for the Kumasi-based side, who are currently on a three-game winless run, suffering two defeats within that period. The pressure has mounted from supporters in recent weeks, with growing calls for the club to make decisive changes to turn their season around.

Kotoko will now shift focus to their upcoming league fixture against Hohoe United on April 26, 2026, as they aim to steady the ship and return to winning ways under interim guidance.
