I’ve Served NPP for 17 Years- Bawumia Condemns “Outsider” and “Slave” Tags

The 2024 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has rejected the “Outsider” and “Slave” descriptions tagged to his persona by some leading members of the party.
He based his reaction on his history with the party as well as the history of the party.
Addressing some party supporters, he indicated that he was by no means an outsider, as he had dedicated 17 consecutive years of his life to the party.
He stated that persons making those statements were ignorant of the history of the NPP.
“All those making those statements do not understand the history of our party. If they did, they’d know that different tribes united to establish the party, the Gas, the Muslim party, the Northern People’s Party and the Ashanti. They all came together to give birth to the United Party.”
He said the Northern People’s Party, which at the time was the biggest party, having 15 seats, was led by SD Dombo as Chairman and his father, Mumuni Bawumia, as the Vice Chairman.
He further delved into his history with the party, stating that he served as a running mate for eight years and risked his life to testify at the Supreme Court.
“On my way to court, I had an accident on my way from Bole to Accra. It was the mercy of God that I didn’t die in that accident.”
“I was Vice President for eight years, and everyone bears witness that I’ve been the most impactful Vice President in the history of Ghana. I have also been a Presidential candidate. I have served the party for the last 17 years. Today, some people tag me as an outsider.”
Condemning the tag, Dr Bawumia said such commentaries are divisive and derail the growth of the party.
“These statements do not help the party. The growth of any party is in people. Can we grow if we scatter the people within the party? No matter where you come from, you can lead the NPP to be President. Those statements do not bring unity. We need peace in Ghana. These statements sow discord, and we don’t want that in the party.”
