Sports Minister Inaugurates Advisory Board to Drive Sports Development

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has taken a significant step toward enhancing the nation’s sports sector with the official inauguration of a nine-member Ministerial Advisory Board.
The ceremony, held at the Ministry’s Conference Room, was led by the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, marking a renewed commitment to leveraging sports as a catalyst for national development.
In his remarks, Hon. Adams emphasized the vital role this advisory body will play in shaping the strategic direction of the Ministry. Highlighting recent structural and operational reforms, he underscored the importance of realigning systems and processes to support Ghana’s evolving sports agenda effectively.
He stated, “This board is not just a consultative body; it is expected to be proactive and contribute meaningfully to our development goals.” Hon. Adams reiterated the government’s focus on prudent expenditure, ensuring the Ministry remains efficient while making substantial contributions to Ghana’s economic growth. He also emphasized the Ministry’s broader development role, including using sports to improve sanitation, combat illegal mining (galamsey), and promote good governance.
The Minister disclosed that the President, through Cabinet, has directed the Ministry to finalize the Sports Development Fund, which will soon be laid before Parliament. Passing this fund is crucial for executing planned projects and ensuring liquidity, enabling the Ministry to sustain and expand its sports initiatives.
The list of members include Iddie Adams as Chairman, Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah, Amb. Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu, Ms. Amerley Nuno-Amarteifio, Mr. Cleanse Tsonam Akpeloo, COP. Lydia Yaako Donkor, Mr. Abedi Ayew Pele and Mr. Michael Esuon.
The diverse composition ensures a comprehensive approach to advancing Ghana’s sports sector.
Hon. Adams expressed confidence in the expertise of the nominated members, assuring that their recommendations will be given due consideration. He also commended the Ministry’s Chief Director and staff for their dedication and efforts toward institutional growth, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in achieving national sports objectives.
Addressing Ghana’s participation in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, the Minister highlighted that the country’s goal is not merely to participate but to derive meaningful developmental benefits from the tournament. He emphasized the importance of strategic planning and leveraging sports for social impact.
