Asantehene Expresses Confidence In Ghana Army

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has vouched for the moral principles of the personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in upholding and respecting the democratic values of the country.

This was during a courtesy call by the Chief of Army Staff (CAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona and staff officers from Army Headquarters and Central Command Headquarters on March 19, 2024

His Majesty in his speech alluded to the unconstitutional changes of government in some neighbouring countries and parts of Africa and encouraged the Forces to place a premium on the country’s constitution.

He further expressed his confidence and trust in them.

“We trust our military have the moral ethics and training required and won’t replicate the unconstitutional changes in government witnessed in West Africa sub-region. We have a constitutionally accepted procedure in changing government every four years which must be respected.”

It comes as African countries including Niger, Chad, Mali, Guinea, Sudan and Burkina Faso have all experienced coup d’état in recent times creating concerns among African nations.

Major General Onwona was at the Manhyia Palace to officially inform Asantehene about his appointment as well as seek his blessings and counsel.

Among his delegation were Brigadier General Charles Agyemang Prempeh, the General Officer Commanding the Central Command; Brigadier General RL Mensah, the Commander of the Kumasi Military Hospital; Brigadier General Y Salifu, the Deputy Chief Staff Officer for Plans and Policy at Army Headquarters; and staff officers from Army Headquarters and Central Command Headquarters.
