Over 1,500 Acres of Degraded Land Restored- Lands Minister

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has restored 1,535 acres of degraded land in the Ashanti Region through partnerships with the private sector, with plans to reclaim an additional 1,500 acres by the end of the year.

Addressing the press on July 15, 2026, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Buah, said the government is also undertaking direct reclamation of 960 acres across the country.

Hon. Buah announced the launch of the Strategic Land Administration Reform Project, SLARP, a nationally owned programme aimed at modernising and decentralising Ghana’s land administration system.

The project will be rolled out through eight components, including the digitisation of the Lands Commission, systematic titling and a national cadastre, boundary demarcation, and strengthening of Customary Land Secretariats.

The Minister said the Ministry has also revised the Public Land Application Form, known as Form 5, and proposed a new premium framework to align the value of state lands with current market prices.

In addition, a Public Land Protection Task Force has been established to prevent encroachment on state lands.

“These reforms are intended to ensure that state land transactions are done in a more transparent, accountable, and efficient manner,” Hon. Buah stated.

On revenue mobilisation, the Minister reported that the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands (OASL) has mobilised GH₵265.61 million so far, representing about 75.48 per cent of its annual target of GH₵351.88 million.

He added that OASL has also opened four new district offices during the period under review to bring services closer to the people.
