Report All Cases of Child Abuse, Violence, or Neglect- Gender Ministry to Public

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has urged the public to report all cases of abuse, violence and neglect against children to the appropriate authorities for suitable response.

It emphasised that every child deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment, free from fear and harm.

“We urge the public to be vigilant and report all cases of abuse, violence, or neglect against children to the appropriate authorities…The public is encouraged to report cases of child abuse and related concerns through the Ministry’s toll-free helplines: 0800-800-800 or 0800-900-900 for complaints and enquiries.

“Additionally. issues of sexual and gender-based violence can be reported to the Domestic Violence Call Centre by calling the toll-free number 0800-111-222.”

It comes after the police arrested two adults who were captured in a viral video scourging a boy tied with a nylon rope.

The Ministry in its statement condemned the “inhumane and degrading” treatment, adding that such “barbaric and degrading” acts of violence against children constitute gross violations of their rights and dignity.

“They have no place in our society and are in direct contravention of the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 360), which mandates the Government and all stakeholders to safeguard the survival, protection, and development of every child in Ghana.”

It therefore commended the Ghana Police Service for their swift intervention and the prompt arrest of individuals involved in the abuse of a 12-year-old boy in New Ankasa, Western Region.

It expressed its relief that the victim had received medical attention and had been reunited with his father.

“The Ministry will continue to follow up on the case and collaborate with law enforcement, social welfare agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure the child receives the necessary psychosocial support and protection.”
