Ofori Atta Drags National Security Officers to Court For Trespass

Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, is in court seeking among other things damages for trespass against two national security officers for illegally raiding his home to undertake an extensive search.

The defendants have been identified as DSP Bismarck Boakye Ansah and Chief Inspector Mensah.

According to the writ filed by the lawyers of the plaintiff, the operatives invaded his residence at Labone in Accra on February 11, 2025, and conducted an extensive search without prior notice or his consent.

“The ‘raiding team’ comprised the Defendants, 9 Military personnel carrying assault rifles and other menacingly looking individuals in plain clothes, some of who carried side arms on their bodies.”

“‘The raiding team’ did not produce any form of warrant nor indicate to the Plaintiff’s domestic staff the basis for the search but warned the domestic staff to desist from using their mobile phones throughout the entire period of the unauthorized operation.”

According to the writ, the raid has left the domestic staff who were in charge of taking care of the property “traumatized” and in “varying degrees of severe shock”.

Additionally, it said the property gained notoriety both domestically and internationally due to the raid.

The cousin of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is therefore seeking a declaration that the defendants trespassed and breached his privacy in their conduct; damages for trespass; aggravated damages for breach of privacy; a perpetual injunction restraining the plaintiffs and their assigns from repeating similar conduct against him; and costs.
