Sewuah Regional Hospital Construction Halted

Construction of the Sewuah Regional Hospital in the Ashanti Region has been halted, causing uncertainty among residents about the facility’s opening date. Opemsuo Radio recently visited the site and discovered that construction had ceased.

During a previous visit, the site supervisor, Kingsley Okai, had expressed optimism about the progress of the construction. He mentioned that the installation of a transformer and the construction of high tension pillars for electricity generation were underway.

“We are almost done. In the next two or three months, we will be done. So far, we have everything needed to complete the work. By the end of the year, the Sewuah Hospital will be operational,” he said.

However, during the recent visit by Opemsuo Radio, it became apparent that construction had come to a standstill.

According to information gathered, the Ghana Highway Authority instructed the construction team to suspend the installation of the high tension pillars due to the lack of a footpath for pedestrians.

Efforts were made to contact officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), who were overseeing the construction of the pillars, but they declined to provide any information.

Additionally, the road leading to the hospital site has been obstructed by individuals who have illegally built houses. These buildings were marked by the assembly as being in violation of regulations, but the owners proceeded with construction, further complicating access to the hospital.

During a previous interview with Opemsuo Radio, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, highlighted that the remaining obstacles to the hospital’s opening were the lack of electricity and the deplorable state of the road.

He explained that efforts were being made in collaboration with the ECG to construct a substation and resolve the electricity issue.

Furthermore, measures were being taken to address the challenges posed by the illegal structures obstructing access to the hospital.
