Second Gas Processing Plant To Save Ghana Millions and Create Jobs- Finance Minister

The Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, says the Second Gas Processing Plant (GPP II) of the country will save the country millions of dollars as well as create jobs.

An implementation committee for the project was commissioned on May 12, 2025, by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister for Energy & Green Transition.

In a statement, the Finance Minister said the project was overdue as Ghana annually spends over $1 billion on expensive liquid fuels to power plants for power generation and distribution.

“With this new Gas Processing Plant, we have the opportunity to save nearly $500 million and create over 1,000 jobs for our people. I reminded the committee, chaired by the Deputy Minister for Energy, that the time for bureaucracy is over. The nation is counting on them to deliver, and I’ve given them four weeks to finalise their implementation plan.”

He believes the project will be a game-changer.

“Atuabo Gas has been a lifeline for Ghana. GPP II will be a game-changer for our energy security, economic stability, and national welfare. We are committed to getting it done!”
