Samira Bawumia in Sierra Leone for Events Hosted by First Lady Fatima Maada Bio

Former Second Lady of Ghana, Hajia Samira Bawumia, has arrived in Sierra Leone to participate in a series of events hosted by the First Lady, Fatima Maada Bio.

She announced her arrival on Monday on Facebook while anticipating the events.

Mrs Bawumia wrote: “Hello, everyone. I’ve arrived in Sierra Leone ahead of a series of events hosted by the First Lady of Sierra Leone, First Lady Fatima Maada Bio. I look forward to meeting with and experiencing the beautiful people and vibrant culture of Sierra Leone.”

Key among the events is the ECOWAS LPG High-Level Policy Dialogue.

The ECOWAS LPG High-Level Policy Dialogue brings together policymakers, First Ladies, and energy stakeholders from across West Africa to advance the adoption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a clean cooking solution.

The initiative aims to reduce health risks from household air pollution, promote gender equity, and accelerate energy transition in the sub-region.

The dialogue in Freetown is expected to outline regional strategies for scaling up LPG infrastructure, financing, and public education to meet ECOWAS clean energy targets.

Mrs Bawumia is scheduled to address the forum and hold bilateral meetings with regional leaders.

This marks one of Mrs Bawumia’s major international engagements in 2026, following her tenure as Ghana’s Second Lady from 2017 to 2025.
