DVLA Deploys Clone Detection Machines to Curb Vehicle Registration Fraud

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has introduced clone detection machines to strengthen vehicle verification and protect the integrity of Ghana’s vehicle registration system.

In a statement, the Authority said it is now deploying OBD II scanners as part of a proactive measure to identify vehicles imported through unapproved channels that illegally clone the Vehicle Identification Numbers of legitimate vehicles awaiting registration.

According to the DVLA, the practice has, in some cases, led to genuine vehicle owners being wrongly flagged as already registered.

Officials explained that the scanners will improve vehicle security, curb fraudulent registrations, and reinforce the accuracy and credibility of the national vehicle register.

The DVLA urged all stakeholders and the public to cooperate with its officers during the verification process.

The Authority added that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to promote transparency, safety, and security within Ghana’s vehicle registration regime.
