Sam George Chairs Technical Review of Draft ICT Bills

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, is chairing a technical review meeting with heads of key ICT agencies to deliberate on draft legislation aimed at strengthening Ghana’s digital governance framework.

The meeting has brought together all agency heads under the Ministry alongside their technical and legal officers who worked on the Draft Bills.

Legal consultants engaged by the Ministry are also in attendance, as well as representatives from IMANI Ghana, the policy think tank.

A report by the Ministry said he had reviewed all 10 Cabinet Memos submitted to him on the various Draft Bills.

It said today’s session is focused on discussing that review and the current drafts of the Bills with stakeholders to ensure technical soundness and policy coherence before they proceed further.

Among the stakeholders is IMANI Ghana, providing independent policy input.

According to the Ministry, the involvement of the think tank reflects its push for external scrutiny and evidence-based feedback on proposed laws that will shape Ghana’s digital economy.

The session underscores the Ministry’s commitment to inclusive consultation and evidence-based policymaking as Ghana strengthens legislation on digital technology, cybersecurity, and data protection.

It noted that the review is part of broader efforts to modernise the legal environment for innovation while safeguarding citizens’ rights and national security.

Outcomes from today’s deliberations are expected to inform final drafting and subsequent Cabinet processes.
