SA Police Announces Murder of Ghanaian National in Nyanga, Links Killing to Suspected Extortion

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape has confirmed the murder of a Ghanaian national in Nyanga on Monday, 29 June 2026, in circumstances believed to be linked to extortion.

According to official crime scene reports, the deceased, 35-year-old Mr Kwabena Boagen, was shot at the Nyanga Terminus in front of NTG Hair Salon and Shoe Repairs at approximately 15:45.

SAPS said the circumstances point to an extortion-related crime perpetrated by gunmen who are yet to be arrested.

Emergency Medical Services personnel declared Mr Boagen dead at the scene.

A murder docket has been opened and is being investigated by Nyanga detectives.

The police said they have been in contact with a relative of the deceased and, on behalf of SAPS, conveyed heartfelt condolences.

Mr Boagen resided in Khayelitsha but worked in Nyanga.

A post-mortem examination is being conducted today by Department of Health officials, in accordance with South African protocols. SAPS also addressed a media release issued by the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Service said it has no record of the alleged murder in Khayelitsha and has appealed to the authorities concerned to provide details of that incident to enable further investigation.

“Nyanga detectives are hard at work investigating the murder with a view to apprehending the perpetrators,” SAPS stated.
