2025 Hajj Fee Reduced to GHc62k

Muslims seeking to fulfil the last obligatory pillar of Islam, that is, pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca will be paying GHC62,000 this year.

This is equivalent to $4,130 and down from GHC75,000 that was charged last year, a five-member Hajj Taskforce constituted by President John Dramani Mahama in honour of his promise to the Muslim community in Ghana announced on February 5, 2025.

Meanwhile, the quota for this year’s Hajj is 5000, one thousand more than last year.

While announcing the task force headed by Asutifi South MP Collins Dauda, in January, President Mahama charged it with reducing the fee drastically.

“I have formed a five-member Hajj taskforce and they will be leaving to participate in the Hajj Conference. One of the tasks that I have given them is to go make arrangements to bring the tasks fare as low as possible so that as many Muslims who intend to perform the pilgrimage can do so”

He had earlier in 2024 described the fees as “disheartening”, recognizing that it had left many with no option but to seek alternative routes for their pilgrimage.
