Galamsey: Ghana Needs a State of Emergency- Ahiagbah

The Director of Communication for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has called for an immediate declaration of a state of emergency by President John Dramani Mahama over galamsey.

In a tweet, he underscored the need for a concerted effort to end the menace.

“Who is buying the galamsey gold? Who? Ghana needs a state of emergency declared now, not later, and a National Dialogue on fighting Galamsey with everyone in the room.”

In his estimation, illegal mining has spiralled out of control with next to zero response from the government.

“Instead of focusing on the fight, the government is busy rounding up citizen activists exercising their constitutional right to hold the government accountable. We must come together to fight against galamsey.”

His post is in response to a viral video of the destruction of a cocoa farm for illegal mining, with the overwhelming approval of its acclaimed owner.
