Police Arrest 3 Suspects Over Disruption of NPP Constituency Elections in Obuasi   

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly disrupting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executive Election process at Bidieso in Obuasi.

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service said the suspects stormed the polling station on Saturday, July 12, 2026, armed with offensive weapons, scattered ballot boxes, and threatened election officials and voters.

The suspects have been identified as Haruna Iddrisu, also known as Dole, Osei Boateng, also known as Nana Osei, and Charles Opoku, also known as Blackman.

According to police, a reinforcement team was deployed swiftly to the scene and effected the arrests and retrieved an axe and cutlass.

The three were arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, namely rioting with weapons, and rioting with weapons.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail in the sum of GHS50,000.00 with two justified sureties.

The case has been adjourned to 10th August 2026.

The Police Service said investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to arrest other persons suspected to be involved in the incident.

The disruption at Bidieso is among isolated incidents reported during the NPP’s constituency executive elections over the weekend.
