Oyibi Divisional Council Withdraws Holiday Declaration

The Oyibi Divisional Council has withdrawn and apologised for serving a holiday notice on social media on Wednesday.

In a press statement dated September 27, 2022, the council declared September 30 a holiday contrary to the law of Ghana.

The holiday, according to the statement signed by Council’s secretary, Enock Alabi Nyomowoko, was in view of the council’s commemoration of “Oyibi Yele Yeli”, otherwise known as the Yam festival.

The “holiday” was to be observed in the Oyibi community alone.

But in a subsequent press statement signed by the Council’s secretary, Enock Alabi Nyomowoko, the earlier notice was withdrawn with an attached apology.

“I wish to apologise to the entire citizens living in any part of the Oyibi community and the general public for releasing such communique and I seek that such information should be disregarded. I am very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
